MacBook Air M2 vs MacBook Air M2

This year, Apple unveiled the M2 processor and two new laptops using it: the 13-inch MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air. Compared to the previous MacBook Air, the new model features a whole new chip.

In the meanwhile, the M2 chip is the only difference between the new MacBook Pro 13-inch and the prior one; the latter used an M1 chip. The MacBook Air and the base MacBook Pro this year, however, differ greatly from those from last year. To determine which of the two new MacBooks you should purchase, let's compare them.

MacBook Air M2 vs MacBook Pro M2: Price

Starting at Rs. 1,19,900, the new MacBook Air M2 is available in India. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with an M2 processor costs Rs 1,29,900 in its base configuration. Between the two, there is a total difference of Rs 10,000.

MacBook Air M2 vs MacBook Air M2: Design

The larger 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro have a similar design to the M2-powered MacBook Air. Compared to the new 13-inch MacBook Pro, which still has the original design, it is lighter and thinner. The newer MacBook Air also comes with a MagSafe port and a quad-speaker setup that should be louder than the dual-speaker setup on the 13-inch MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro, on the other hand, has fans built into the chassis, which should improve thermal performance.

MacBook Air M2 vs MacBook Pro M2: Display

Although there isn't much of a difference between the two displays, the new MacBook Air might be suitable for you if you don't mind your laptop's screen having a notch.

As for the specifications, the MacBook Air M2 includes a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display with a 1080P camera inside the notch. The new MacBook Air display has a brightness rating of 500 nits and a resolution of 2560x1664 pixels. The 13.3-inch, LED-backlit, IPS-technology display on the 13-inch MacBook Pro boasts a brightness of 500 nits.

MacBook Air M2 vs MacBook Air M2: Performance

The two new MacBooks are powered by the new M2 chip. Additionally, according to Apple, the new M2-powered workstations include up to 18% faster CPUs, 35% better graphics performance, and a 40% quicker neural engine.

The MacBook Air has an 8-CPU and 8-GPU combination, but the M2 processor inside the MacBook Pro has 8-CPU cores and 10-GPU cores. This is the only small variation between the two MacBooks' base configurations. Additionally, the MacBook Pro includes an internal fan for better heat dissipation, so users should anticipate better performance over longer periods.

MacBook Air M2 vs MacBook Air: Which M2 MacBook should you buy

There is no denying that the MacBook Air with an M2 processor offers superior hardware to the MacBook Pro with an M2. At a lower cost, you get a redesigned design, an improved display, a webcam with higher resolution, and MagSafe charging. Therefore, the MacBook Air M2 is the model for you if you're seeking for a new MacBook costing less Rs 1,000,000. However, if the notch bothers you and you are a professional on a tight budget, you can alternatively choose the MacBook Pro M2.
